British Airways is the flag carrier airline of the United Kingdom. It operates a large and diverse fleet of over 250 aircrafts, including models from Boeing and Airbus. British Airways flies to over 180 destinations worldwide spanning across 6 continents.

The Dashboard

The British Airways Annual Review Dashboard showcases Key Performance Indicators based on ratings and reviews for their, services, aircraft types and overall rating by country from March 2016 to October 2023.

The Dataset

The dataset is made up of 2 .csv(s) for Country data and Customer Reviews data. The connection is set to handle Many-to-Many cardinality, meaning that both tables have multiple records matching with each other. The Referential Integrity is set to "Some records match," meaning not all records in one table may have a corresponding match in the other.

The dataset includes average ratings for different categories like Cabin Staff Services, Entertainment and more. The Average Overall Rating by Aircraft section lists various aircraft models while the Average Overall Rating by Year shows data from 2016 to 2023. A world map highlights ratings by country, while a bar chart displays the number of reviews for different aircraft types. Filters allow selection by continent, date, aircraft group, seat type, traveler type, and metric.

Setting up the visuals

The visuals in the British Airways Annual Review Dashboard are designed to provide a clear and organized overview of key performance indicators. The dashboard presents a high-level summary, including metrics such as the average overall rating, cabin staff service, entertainment, food, ground service, seat comfort, and value for money, all displayed prominently at the top for quick reference.

The layout includes various charts that allow users to explore the data in more depth. A bar chart on the left shows the "Average Overall Rating by Aircraft," allowing for easy comparison between different aircraft models. The line graph on the right tracks the "Average Overall Rating by Year," providing insights into performance trends over time. Below, a world map visualizes the "Average Overall Rating by Country," offering a geographical breakdown of customer feedback. Additionally, a bar chart displays the number of reviews for each aircraft type.

The dashboard also includes interactive filters, enabling users to customize the view by continent, aircraft group, seat type, traveler type, and specific metrics like cabin staff service, entertainment, and more. This interactive design ensures that users can easily access the information most relevant to their analysis, enhancing their ability to make informed decisions.

My Learnings

Working on this British Airways dashboard provided several key learnings that enhanced my skills in dashboard design.

  • The separate Dashboard and Worksheet tabs made content management straightforward, allowing me to efficiently organize and control the layout.

  • I found adding custom fonts to be much easier than expected, giving me greater flexibility in the design and ensuring consistency in visual style.

  • One standout feature was the drill-down functionality, which made exploring data seamless and enriched the user experience.

  • Sorting metrics was a breeze, further enhancing the dashboard's usability and enabling users to focus on the insights that matter most.

  • The overall user interface felt cleaner and more intuitive, improving my workflow.
